A survey conducted by UK’s National Literacy Trust showed that children who use technology may be better writers.

Students who use social networking tools, in fact,  have better writing skills than those who don’t (according to their self-assessment).
The survey was conducted over a sample size of 3,001 school children aged nine and, according to BBC’s report 16. 24% had their own blog, 82% sent text messages at least once a month, and 73% used instant messaging services.

Jonathan Douglas, director of the National Literacy Trust, told BBC News that “Engagement with online technology drives their enthusiasm for writing short stories, letters, song lyrics or diaries.”
It has also been argued, though, that the use of technology alone cannot lead to better writing skills without proper direction from teachers and parents.

Any thoughts?
