Kids have made their choice at the Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards 2010. Mario Kart won the category Favorite Video Game with what has been defined as the “best version ever”. Do you remember (your kids probably don’t) when the first time Mario appeared? It was in Donkey Kong way back in 1981! Since then he has appeared in more than 200 games.

Nintendo will launch a 3d device which will be the successor to its DS portable gaming device, the best-selling gaming device ever (as of the end of December 2009, Nintendo has sold 125 million units compared with the about 60 million units of the PlayStation Portable sold by Sony during the same year). The new device won’t even require special glasses.
No more details on the new products will be available until June 15, when Nintendo 3DS will be officially presented at the E3 event.

How early is too early to play with an iPhone app? Fisher Price has released three new iPhone apps for kids aged between 2 and 5 years old.
There is See’n Say, featuring a virtual arrow that kids can spin to identify animals; then Little People Farm with mini-games and songs; and finally Chatter Telephone, an iPhone version of the Fisher Price Plastic phone.
As for parents, they find on Facebook the application “Moments to Share” to record kids’ milestones in a special “dynamic” timeline with photos, videos, dates and stories that they can share with their friends.
A competition has been announced by Michelle Obama for designing apps, games and other tools that help children make healthier lifestyle choices. All the apps participating in the contest have to use information taken from the USDA Nutrition Dataset and have to be available for free for a year after the competition is closed.
The competition is called Apps for Healthy Kids and is part of Let’s Move campaign.
All the apps and games will have to be focused on encouraging kids & families to adopt healtier lifestyles and eating habits (controlling portions, being more active, etc.). Winners will earn a check for $ 10,000 and developers will retaing full rights to their entry.
The competition runs from March 10, 2010 through June 30, 2010 (close at 5pm EST).

Sony introduced yesterday PlayStation Move, the brand new motion controller for PS3 . Among the first games to be sold as a bundle with PlayStation Move are Sports, Champions (a sword-fighting game) and Motion Fighters (a Street Fighting Game).
PlayStation Move can be used together with PlayStation Eye to attain a higher “augmented reality” effect. Eye + Move will be available for $100 next Autumn.
EA Sports held a Season Opener event at this year’s GDC during which it released some news about the ongoing development of Active 2.0 (title still to be defined) for Wii, PS3, iPod touch and iPhone, coming a year after the first Active. It will feature an entirely new system “powered by new leg and arm straps with motion sensors, a heart rate monitor to capture intensity and a new online hub to track and share workout data.” No more information for now…are you curious?
