V-Tech launches MobiGo and Flip e-reader


From the toy Fair, again: VTech has launched the MobiGo, a handheld gaming system for kids 3-7 to fish, color, draw, play instruments and much more. And that’s not all: there’s also the Flip, the first “animted e-reader” that comes with a 4.3-inch color touchscreen, a built-in dictionary and a QWERTY keyboard. A kid-friendly competitor for Kindle?

Fisher-Price iXLand to become the iPad for kids?

Another exciting piece of news from the International Toy Fair. It seems like kids are getting their own iPad! Touch-screen technology and educational toys meet on the Fisher-Price iXLand (available for $80), that comes with six preloaded programs allowing kids to read interactive story books, practice handwriting, art and music. Additional programs will be downloaded via the built-in SD slot.

Available from October 2010… just in time for next Christmas.

The new Barbie® is a computer engineer


Barbie’s got a brand new career and that is…computer engineer! Her new job is the result of an online voting campaign launched by Barbie®for the first time. The new toy, presented at the International Toy Fair in New York, will make its debut in Winter 2010. This time around the most popular doll in the world will hopefully inspire girls worldwide to get interested in computer sciences. To make her look more authentic and realistic, Barbie® designers teamed up with the Society of Women Engineers and the National Academy of Engineering. As you can see from the picture, she’s obviously equipped with the latest high tech gadgets :)

Disney to team up with Apple for iPad contents?

While announcing Q1 FY10 financial results, the Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger talked about the new Apple iPad. He said Disney is exploring the possibility to create new forms of contents because the iPad has indeed a great potential; such products will also be different from the contents you usually see on an internet connected computer or on TV sets. We’ll see what happens…

10th anniversary of Sims franchise today


Can you believe it’s already ten years? Today it’s the Sim franchise birthday and, according to the press release, units sold so far amounts to 125 million (consoles excluded). The revenue generated by the Sims franchise has been of $ 2.5 billion for EA: the huge success of the game is allegedly due to its ability to attract any kind of gamer.

Rumors about a Google tablet


Were you thinking about buying an iPad for you and your family? If you’re following the ongoing debate on the brand new device from Apple, then you’ve probably heard the rumors about Google working together with HTC on a new Chrome OS Google Tablet. Teenager invents radio for communicating from underground


The 16-years-old Alexander Kendrick has invented a low-frequency radio that allows cave-texting. And what does that mean? :) It means that you can finally text while you are deep underground. The device has been tested down to 946 feet, and that’s the deepest underground communication so far in United States. It has already been planned to resize the equipment in order for it to be perfectly suitable for cave explorers and rescues. So smart!
